When it comes to child development, the transition from diapers to the potty is not always a smooth one. It’s highly common for young children to experience setbacks during toilet training. When you are having difficulty teaching your child how to use the potty, there are several possible reasons and ways to address them, such as:
- Your child resists using the potty.
Resistance may mean your child is not ready to start potty training. Before joining a program like summer camp, young children need to exhibit potty readiness. Signs of potty readiness includes showing an interest in the potty, awareness of when they need to go, and staying dry for at least two hours during the day. - Your child has numerous accidents.
Accidents are bound to happen with potty training. When they do occur, treat them lightly and try not to get too upset. Scolding and punishment may discourage your child which will prolong training. When accidents are few and far between, your little one is probably ready for daycare in Detroit, Michigan. - Your child doesn’t recognize the need to go.
Does your child know when they have bowel movement but can’t always recognize the urge to pee? This is normal for kids learning to use the potty as many don’t learn complete bladder control for many months after learning to manage bowel movements. Frequent leaks and full accidents may indicate your child is not ready.
